Jacey Smathers’ family turned its tragedy into a positive for students in Tarleton State University’s nursing program. Smathers, a Tarleton nursing student, died from carbon monoxide poisoning early this year. Weatherford College was recently awarded a five-year extension on a TRIO Upward Bound grant to serve high school students in the Gordon, Millsap, Mineral Wells and Springtown school districts.
